Mairi Garcia PA-C
Mairi Garcia is a native of Miami. During her high school years at La Salle High School, Mairi worked and volunteered right here at Mercy Hospital. She attended Pace University and College of New Rochelle in the New York City area where she graduated Cum Laude. In 2004, Mairi began the nationally recognized Physician Assistant (P.A) program at Barry University in Miami Shores where she graduated in December of 2006.
In April of 2007, Mairi joined the staff of Dr. Efrain Garcia where she quickly became an essential part of the medical care team under Dr. Garcia’s direction. Mairi is now providing our patients with compassionate and expert diagnostic care. Mairi expresses a tremendous pride in working in the same caring environment where she first discovered her passion for medicine.
Board Certified, Mairi is a member of the Florida Academy of Physician’s Assistants (FAPA) and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).
Mairi is fluent in English and Spanish.
WHAT IS A PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT?
A Physician Assistant (PA), is a health care professional licensed to practice medicine with Physician supervision. In general, PAs are authorized to perform any duties delegated to them by their supervising physician that they feel comfortable performing. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities the job description for PAs includes, but is not limited to:
- General duties: Perform complete physical evaluations and medical exams. Ordering and interpreting appropriate lab, x-ray, and special studies. Establishing a working diagnosis based upon acquired data and developing a treatment plan and implement therapeutic intervention and provide appropriate follow-up care.
- Hospital duties: Perform complete medical history and physical exams on all patients, identifying and alerting the supervising physician to any conditions that present. Conduct hospital rounds on a daily basis of all ward and ICU patients. Evaluate care and order appropriate labs, special studies, IVs, diet, and therapeutic interventions required. In conjunction with the other medical specialties, formulate and implement discharge planning and clinical follow-up. Evaluate and provide appropriate intervention (in conjunction with supervising physician) for ER and nursing home patients consulted for medical conditions. Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising physician or other healthcare professionals.
- Evaluate, screen and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources. Design, conduct, and/or participate in research studies, manage databases, and perform quality assurance.
- Prescriptions: In the state of Florida PA's can write prescriptions.
